Rye Players Newsletter – February 2010
Hi Everyone,
Â
We have come to the end of our year and this is the last newsletter from the present Committee.
I’m sure you’ll agree that 2009-2010 has been a great success with 4 very well received productions, starting with the Campton duo, ‘Cards, Cups and Crystal Ball’ and ‘Everybody’s Friend’, in April, ‘‘Allo ‘Allo’ in July, ‘Make Way for Lucia’ in October and ‘Alice the Panto’ last month. The ‘Cards, Cups’ duo was directed by Philippa Urquehart who very kindly filled a gap and in doing so shared many professional techniques with those involved in the production. Our July show was in addition to our usual schedule but, nevertheless, proved highly popular and a great deal of fun. I plan to direct ‘Dad’s Army’ this summer and, hopefully, it will receive the same amount of enthusiasm. Both Dilys’s production, ‘Make Way for Lucia’, and Helen Gray’s ‘Alice’, written by John Senior, were very well supported and lucrative. Needless to say, we depend upon a profit, along with members subscriptions, in order to pay our overheads such as insurance, storage and hall rental.
Â
With regard to subscriptions, I include a letter from our Membership Secretary, Peter Spencer, who also gives details of our AGM, taking place on Tuesday 2nd March. For venue and other information see below.
Â
Â
Â
Our ‘Opera Night’, last February, arranged by James Black, and the Murder Mystery, in November (again,
by John Senior), were also enjoyable and successful events.
Other noteworthy occasions have been the ‘‘Allo ‘Allo’ party and the Christmas party, both hosted by Robin and Helen Clarke.
Â
Just a few more dates before the ‘hand over’ on March 2nd! -
Â
Each year we do a small concert for the Lions over 70s party. Anyone interested in performing, or helping, on Sunday April 11th, please contact a member of the (new) committee.
